Quick answer
AES Sand (Advanced Enviro-Septic™ sand) is a sand blend that must hold no more than 2% silt, because more silt can clog the system and stop water wicking through. It wicks moisture and filters well, so it’s a core part of septic tanks, water treatment systems, multi-media filters and sand filters, and it’s the sand most septic systems use to filter wastewater.

About the product
How this sand performs
AES stands for Advanced Enviro-Septic™. It is not a single sand but a combination of sands that together meet a set purity standard. The key requirement is a silt content of no more than 2%. Any more can cause blockages and restrict how water wicks through the system, which upsets the natural bacterial environment it depends on.
For septic tanks and water treatment systems that need to filter well, Advanced Enviro-Septic™ Sand is the ideal choice. It is known for wicking moisture exceptionally well, which is why it is a key part of multi-media filters and sand filters. It is a simple, highly effective way to filter water.
It’s the sand septic systems rely on most to filter wastewater before it goes back into the environment.

How many cubic metres of AES sand should I order?
That comes down to your septic system design. Send through the plans or your installer’s specification and we’ll quote the correct quantity.
