Quick answer
Hardwood Chip is a hard-wearing mulch made from Australian hardwood, with each chip roughly 1–1.2 inches (25–30mm). It holds its place on sloping gardens and copes with rain that might otherwise wash a bed out. It keeps its structure, texture and colour far longer than finer mulches, holds water and shades weed seeds from sunlight. Lay it about 50–75mm deep.

About the product
How this mulch performs
At roughly 1–1.2 inches per chip, hardwood chip mulch stays where you put it, even on sloping gardens. It stands up better to heavy rain that could otherwise wash a garden bed out. Made from Australian hardwood, it holds its structure, texture and colour for a long time, unlike finer mulches that decompose quickly.
Spread as a mulch layer, hardwood chip stops sunlight reaching weed seeds, so they cannot germinate and take hold. That makes it a good choice if you would rather not use weed killer or herbicides.
Hardwood Chip: your questions answered
Is hardwood chip good for sloped gardens?
Yes. The 25–30mm chips knit together and hold their place where rain could otherwise wash a bed out.
How long does hardwood chip last?
Longer than finer mulches. It keeps its structure, texture and colour for a long time.
How many cubic metres of hardwood chip should I order?
Lay it 50–75mm deep, where each cubic metre covers roughly 13–20 m². Multiply length × width × depth in metres to get your volume, or let our volume calculator do it.
