How fast new turf roots in comes down to the soil underneath. Our under turf soils are blended to drain well and give young roots something to hold on to.
Quick answer
New turf roots best into a level, free-draining bed, and that’s the job of under turf soil. Choose Under Turf Soil for standard lawns or Premium Under Turf Soil when you want a richer blend that gets turf established sooner. Lay 75–100mm; at 100mm a cubic metre covers about 10 square metres.
| Product | Best for | Typical depth |
|---|---|---|
| Under Turf Soil | New lawns on reasonable ground | 75–100mm |
| Premium Under Turf Soil | Poor clay or sandy ground, quicker establishment | 75–100mm |
Most new lawns do well on Under Turf Soil. Premium Under Turf Soil has extra organic matter for poor ground, or for when you want the lawn established sooner.

“Thanks so much. Needed 15m³ of underturf delivered to Narangba. Even with the earth works company changing when they needed it delivered multiple times, Jimel Transport looked after us. Will be using again for sure.”
Plan on 75–100mm for most new lawns. One cubic metre covers roughly 10 m² at 100mm or 13 m² at 75mm.
Premium Under Turf Soil is richer and gives new turf a stronger start, which helps on poor clay or sandy ground. Standard Under Turf Soil does the job where the ground beneath is already in fair shape.
It’s not ideal. Garden soil is made for beds; under turf it can stay wet or sink unevenly. Under turf soil drains freely and holds its level, which is what a new lawn needs.
