Quick answer

Sir Walter Turf is a tough buffalo grass with a lush green colour that tolerates both shade and drought. Lay it evenly on well-drained, fertile soil with the edges butted together and no gaps, then give it a thorough watering. Once it has established it needs little maintenance: water only in dry spells and fertilise a couple of times a year.

Choose an under turf soil →
  1. 01

    Get the ground ready

Prepare the soil properly before laying. Well-drained, fertile soil gives the best root growth and establishment. Our team can help you choose the right under-soil mix.

  2. 02

Lay the rolls and water in

Lay the Sir Walter Turf evenly over the area with the edges butted together and no gaps. Water thoroughly so it settles in and starts to root.

  3. 03

    Keep it healthy

Once established, Sir Walter Turf needs little maintenance. Because it is drought tolerant, you only need to water regularly in dry periods. A feed a couple of times a year keeps it looking its best.

Sir Walter Turf: your questions answered

Will Sir Walter cope with a shady yard?

Yes. Sir Walter is a shade-tolerant buffalo grass, which is a big reason it is so popular in Brisbane yards with trees or buildings close by.

How often does Sir Walter turf need watering?

Water it deeply straight after laying so it settles and roots down. Once it’s established it’s drought tolerant, so regular watering is only needed in dry spells.

How many square metres of Sir Walter turf should I order?

Measure the lawn in square metres (length × width) and add about 5% for trimming around edges and curves.
